The new album by The Dollyrots is damn good, much improved over their last album, “Eat My Heart Out”. Lead vocalist Kelly Ogden sounds vastly confident in both her vocals and lyrics. And new drummer Chris Black is a powerhouse on the skins.
Every song is a nice poppy with a punky pace, meaning big hooks in under 2 and a half minutes. Starting with the title track “Because I’m Awesome”, The Dollyrots sizzle thru this CD, including a very catchy version of “Brand New Key” which will be most likely be a staple of alternative radio this summer. This CD is perfect for chasing away those winter blahs!
To those of you with sharp eyes,you may have noticed the label the The Dollyrots are on is called Blackheart Records. This indeed is Joan Jett’s new label. And she has proven she has a ear for great talent as her label’s signing of The Dollyrots have shown. Do yourself a favor and zip on out to your local record store or online shop and pick this gem up..
