OST “World’s Greatest Dad” (Lakeshore Records)

Sparkling soundtrack from this bright little gem of a movie by one of my favorite comics, Bobcat Goldthwait.

This dark comedy featuring Robin Williams as a single father whose life begins when his unpopular and sex obsessed son accidentally kills himself.

The father creates a modern day legend about his son which grows and spirals out of control past the point of no return…

This soundtrack features 4 songs from Bruce Hornsby and quite frankly, he has never sounded better then on a soundtrack of all places. Before listening to this I looked at the song listings and when I saw “Mandolin Rain” I winced. It’s a song that has been so badly overexposed that just the mere mention of it sends people running for the cyanide.
But I am very happy to say Bruce has reworked this song, stripped it down and sings it with real heart and soul. And it sets the table for the rest of this excellent album, including the awesome track from the Akron Family, “Don’t Be Afraid, You’re Already Dead”, which I totally cranked up AND hit the “replay” button.

This is a rare treat, a soundtrack actually worth looking up.

You can get this at any major chain music store and I highly recommend you do.
