What would make a young man or woman strap a belt full of high explosives, walk inside a crowded mall, marketplace or bus and kill innocents? It’s a tough question to ask and in this documentary by film maker Pierre Rehov, he attempts to answer some of the questions.
While exploring the reasons behind these Islamic kamikazes, Rehov says that the state of Israel has born the brunt of this type of suicide killers far longer then anyone else. The film looks at the very strict sexual codes that governs Islam and points out one of the main reasons is sex. The holy men teach that a martyr who kills various enemies in such manner will recieve the pleasures of 72 virgins in heaven.
But Rehov fails to truly grasp his subject. Suicide killers have been around for a lot longer then 9/11 or even the uprisings in Gaza. And it’s not solely the way of radical Islamics. He fails to mention the Japanese warriors in World War 2, the Crusades that the Popes ordered against Jerusalem. Many cultures have had their own suicide killers in some way or another. By this is a worthy look at a most serious problem. With such a weak and unholy “religion” and the lack of education within the upper leadership of the Muslim clerics, it’s a real shame the only people dying are the youth, people who could effect positive change for their people are being led to die brutal, senseless deaths. But the same fingers mocking them could easily point at the Western side as well. We send our brightest and best to die those same empty deaths tens of thousands miles simply to line some rich politican or arms makers pocket. Just what truly makes us so different from these suicide killers, that’s the question Rehov needs to ask….
