V/A "Pineapple Express" soundtrack (Lakeshore Records)

Lakeshore Records seems dead intent on taking over the movie music business...they are putting out tons of both scores and soundtracks with some movies recieving both. Now I don't know if every movie deserves such lavish treatment but as long as they are willing to send me CDs to tell you about,so be it!

Pineapple Express is the new movie from Judd Apatow. He seems to have the golden touch with comedies like "Superbad","The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Now he and Seth Rogen, the unlikely breakout star of "Knocked Up" have released this "bromedy",a mix of action and adventure. Normally you expect to see this kind of film star Ben Stiller or Jack Black but since they were busy with "Tropic Thunder" (or Three Amigos-its your call),they got James Franco to step in.

But this soundtrack might be the edge need for "Express",for as as bad as the soundtrack for Thunder was...this isn't as bad. At least this album features a  new song by bad boy rocker,Huey Lewis and the News. But don't get your hopes way up...because you don't want to miss yet another CD with "Electric Ave" by Eddy Grant on it. Because Franco is supposed to be a reggae lovin' stoner, you get a lot vanilla reggae here.

But I do admit, the partial score by Graeme Revell isn't bad,its pretty exciting, only its 2 songs...not quite enough to recommend this but enough to raise it about the typical soundtrack.
