Three years ago,Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller not only made "Sin City" but they also did something pretty amazing as well. Each of the three stories in Sin City were scored by a different composer,it was a great trick and one that really made Sin City standout.
Now in the "The Dark Knight",Christopher Nolan has amped up the stakes by teaming Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howrd again for the 2nd Batman film...and they have turned out the best score since forever.
The music is that good and is very inspired,especially the first piece,"Why So Serious" which is very creepy,and not a little disturbing.This piece establishes The Joker as a serious,unstable threat to Gotham City. No light hearted Prince tunes here,its a further tribute to Heath Ledger's take on the Joker that the music is so twisted.
But this is a BATMAN film and the best piece on this score is "Like a Dog Chasing Cars" which elevates the main theme that was established in "Batman Begins" and uses some wicked percussion to really flesh this piece out.
If this score doesn't make you crank up the volume and start wearing clown make-up or have don a mask...then whats wrong with you? Easily the best superhero score in history.
