Penelope, starring Christine Ricci and Reese Witherspoon was filmed two years ago but wasn't released until last month. Why studios do this is a real mystery, you spend money and in the artist's POV,time,to film a movie you hope will play well.
But studios might like look at the finished product and just hate it or like it but don't how the hell to market it. Sometimes a new star might be rising and the studio will hype up the film just to take advantage of the "name" (in this case,James McAvoy) even if the same actor has a tiny part.
But the studio decided to launch a soundtrack for "Penelope". Now I don't know if the soundtrack is 2 years old...its a fairly decent as soundtracks go. It opens with 2 beautiful score pieces by Joby Talbot, then goes a bit poppy w/a track by Schulyer Fisk and Dave Bassett before returning to the score. Meiko's "The Piano Song" is drop dead haunting. Joby Talbot is a name worth remembering...this effort was totally saved by Talbot's hard work and willing to mix a great score with some interesting song choices.
