Untraceable is the story of a master killer who sets up a website with a victim attached to a most terrible trap. How does it get triggered,by how many webhits the site gets...the more people watch, the victim will die.
While on paper this may be a SAW clone, the score isn't. Chris Young, who has scored plenty of thrillers (Hellraiser 1 and 2,Swordfish) knows how ramp up the tension. The score here for Untraceable is dark, moody but refrains from the cheap blast of brass or strings to point out when you're supposed to jump.
What impressed me about this score is the fact Young understands the film's story very well and scores along that..not only is this a thriller but its also a very sad story about a person's slide into seeming madness. The soft keyboard works here, creating a haunting yet edgy tone. While the movie itself didn't do very well...I think the score is very much worth picking up.
